Governor Samboja empowers women in line with SDG 5

 H.E. Governor Granton Samboja has held a meeting with groups in Mwaranginyi, Mbololo Ward where he has issued  cheques worth Ksh 2 million for economic empowerment of women,youth and persons with disability groups.


Governor Samboja stated that this gender sensitive approach sets to align with the global United Nations UN backed Sustainable Development Goal SDG 5 which calls for mitigating gender inequalities. 


“Women are more burdened with taking care and investing more in their households. This fund further targets to build resilience stand to help small holder businesses led by women and youth to withstand shocks of the disruptive effects of COVID-19,” Governor Samboja advised.


He added that the absence of gender gaps enable economic empowerment to drive sustainable and thriving economies.

Governor remarked that checks and balances would be done to ensure that disbursed funds were directed towards sustainable development activities.

 

Mbololo MCA Godfrey Mwambi encouraged women to join groups so they could benefit from such funds. 


The County Boss stated that those who did not benefit would be captured in the budget for the next fiscal year. 


CECM in charge of Youth, Sports, Gender, Culture and Social Services Laban  Mwashighadi asked women to have visionary ideas so they could use moneys given to expand their enterprises. 


Meanwhile, Governor Samboja advised women to join the Taita Taveta Women Sacco. Registration costs would be footed by the First Lady H.E. Stellah Samboja.


“Saccos have lower interest rates when borrowing and this provides a conducive environment for entrepreneurship. Enterprise enables thriving economies, “ the County Boss noted.



In attendance were Governor’s Gender Advisor Priscilla Mwangeka, Political Advisor Bigvai Mwailemi, Chief of Protocol Amos Mkari Saleh, Director Youth Wallace Mwaluma and Voi Sub County Administrator Jesper Kisombe.
